The Week Ahead: December 18, 2017

December 18, 2017

Dear Silver Hill Families,
This might be the most exciting week of the year at an elementary school! Our Holiday Concert for grades 4 and 5, Band, and Chorus is tonight starting at 6:00. This is one of my favorite events of each school year! I was lucky to see the Pops over the weekend, but honestly my favorite Christmas songs are the ones sung in an elementary school. The smiles, the energy, and of course, the choreography of the holiday concert just make you feel the holiday spirit! Ms. Hough has done her magic once again, and I hope to see you tonight!
Our wonderful school nurse, Brian Kreiger, has accepted another position closer to home and will be leaving us on December 19. Brian has brought a new level of school nursing to Silver Hill, and exemplifies the importance of a comprehensive nursing program at the school level. School nurses are unsung heroes who have such an important role in the daily job of keeping our children safe. I wish Brian all good things in his new position, and thank him for the dedication and resources that he brought to the children at Silver Hill. We will all miss him!
Thank you all SO much for your generous contribution to the Can Do! drive for the Emmaus House food pantry. I don’t have the final count, but I know it filled our lobby! Your generosity will help many local families. All of the classes did a great job of bringing in food items, so instead of awarding just one classroom prize, I gave the top three! The winning class was Mrs. Perez with 458 items, followed by Mrs. Burn’s with a close second of 410, and third place went to Mrs. Quintal’s with 347. Thank you all!
Friday will be an early release day, with dismissal starting at 11:15 for our Early Birds. There is no lunch served that day, but breakfast will be as usual.
Warmest Wishes for the Happiest of Holidays, and much Luck, Love, and Kindness in the New Year,
Margaret
