Jaguar families,

What a yucky weekend weather wise.  Bruins on the other hand played very well with a big win on Saturday night, Red Sox are on a roll and the Celtics are playing tonight. I want to just keep you in the loop with a few things we have brewing at Silver Hill this coming week.

Summer with Haverhill Public Schools

The Haverhill Public Schools is committed to helping children learn and grow during the summer months. Traditional summer programs attempt to minimize the learning loss and “summer slide” that comes with missing two months of instruction. The Haverhill Public Schools continues to expand its summer offerings, supplementing our traditional academic programs and a variety of hands-on enrichment programs with a strong focus on social/emotional development.

Please see the variety of programs that we offer outlined below. Most are at no financial cost. Programs start and end on different dates/times and are subject to change. Please feel free to contact your student’s school with any questions.

i-Ready Diagnostics

We will assess the students this month. We are planning on having them two different sessions for each subject. Math will be June 2nd and 3rd and Reading will be June 7th and 8th.  Similar to the MCAS test, our little ones need to be ready to roll at school…

To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:

  • Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.
  • Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
  • Try not to worry about questions to which they do not know the answers—remind them that it is expected that they will only get about half of the questions correct.
  • Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
  • Use paper and pencil to show work for math questions.

If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.

Parent Drop-off

I would just like to reiterate the fact that there are no staff members on duty before 8:40. For the safety of the students, please make sure that when you are dropping off your child it is after 8:40.  We have had some parents dropping off their children or students walking prior to that time and we do not have staff on duty to watch them. I appreciate your help with this.

Don’t forget to read to your students 20 min a night.  Thank you and have a great week.

Mr. Parker
Asst. Principal
