Updates from Ms. Martin

Dear Silver Hill Community,

Happy Sunday! I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! And Happy Easter to all those who celebrate!

A REMINDER that Wednesday, April 8th, is an Early Release Day with dismissal at 11:35 am.

Communication with Teachers - We truly value home-school communication, and Remind and email are wonderful ways for teachers and families to stay in touch! A gentle reminder: teachers may not be able to respond to you immediately. Please give them 24-48 hours to respond to your messages. They will respond as soon as possible. If you have an emergency, please call the office or send an email or Remind message to Mrs. Martin or Mrs. Gray. Thank you!

***MCAS continues this week for Grades 3 and 4!***
Please be sure your children have a good night's sleep the night before and a healthy breakfast. They should have a reading book with them for when they finish the test. I know they have all been working very hard and are ready to show what they know!

Spring MCAS Dates
Grade 3 ELA: April 2 and April 9
Grade 4 ELA: April 7 and April 10
Grade 3 Math: May 11 and May 12
Grade 4 Math: May 14 and May 15

Assistant Principal Hiring - As many of you have heard, Mrs. Gray is retiring in June. We will miss her! As we look to hire our next Assistant Principal, please click the link below for the survey and share with the hiring committee the characteristics you would like to see in that person, and/or the priorities you would like them to have for Silver Hill, and/or any other thoughts you may have about the process. Thank you!

From Nurse Fetty: BMI Screenings for grades 1 and 4

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

This week we will begin Body Mass Index (BMI) screening students in grades 1 and 4. In accordance with Massachusetts General Law, schools are required to perform height, weight and BMI screenings for students in grades 1, 4, 7 and 10.

A BMI is a measure that is used to show a person’s “weight for height for age”. It is calculated using height and weight.

Your child’s privacy will be respected at all times. The results of your child’s height, weight, and BMI measurements are strictly confidential - the results will be kept in your child’s school health record and will not be shared with anyone without your written permission.

Parents and/or guardians can opt their child out of this screening in writing or by phone.
Please visit https://www.mass.gov/lists/school-health-screening for more information.

If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Kelli Fetty at kfetty@haverhill-ps.org or call the school.

Class Picture Day is Thursday, April 15th
