Updates from Ms. Martin

Dear Silver Hill Community,

Happy Sunday! I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend, although it is a bit chillier than it should be this time of year!

THANK YOU to all of our parents who have been chaperoning field trips this spring! We always appreciate your help, and you help the trips go that much more smoothly! All the field trips have been wonderful these past few weeks!

As a reminder, the field to the right of the school (as you are looking at it) is finished and open! The grass is beautiful, and the students are loving playing on it! Thinking about students playing in the field, you may want to send your child with a hat to wear, as well as apply sunscreen in the morning before school. We will be reminding the students, but please also remind them that they should keep their shoes on while they are outside.

FIELD DAY - this year will take place on an actual field! Mr. Kotosky has been hard at work planning events and preparing the students! Grade 4 is on Wednesday, June 10th (time TBD), and K-3 is on Thursday, June 11th, at the times listed below. I will be sending out a SignUpGenius at the start of the week for families to sign up to hand out water and popsicles to students, and we will also be looking for donations of water, cups, and popsicles. All families are welcome to watch and cheer on their children!

Upcoming ALICE drill

May 2026

Dear Silver Hill Families:

This May/June, in conjunction with our community safety agencies, Silver Hill Elementary School will be conducting an A.L.I.C.E. drill. The drill will take place the week of May 26th or June 1st. For more information about A.L.I.C.E., please read the Frequently Asked Questions below. Further information is available at: https://www.alicetraining.com/ and https://www.haverhill-ps.org/security/k-6-alice-training-information/.

From the perspective of the students, this will seem like a simulation exercise of having a real threat in the building. Our school will conduct our drill sometime during the upcoming week. Similar to fire drills, we are not able to share the exact date of each A.L.I.C.E. drill in advance, however, the school will inform families following each drill.

Please understand the successful implementation of A.L.I.C.E. throughout our school community is essential for the safety and well-being of our students and staff. To better prepare for any of these events, our staff and students should be trained in what to expect and how to react. Our goal of A.L.I.C.E. best practices training is to replace fear and hopelessness during emergencies with preparation and readiness in the face of adverse circumstances.
Again please be reassured, we are conducting these drills as part of our yearly A.L.I.C.E. training so that our students and staff can implement strategies learned to better prepare for and make informed decisions about a variety of emergency situations.

Sincerely,

Donna Martin
Principal, Silver Hill Elementary School
