The Week Ahead: November 13, 2017

November 13, 2017

Dear Silver Hill Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the Veteran’s Day weekend.  A very special thank you to all of our veterans, men and woman who have sacrificed to protect our nation’s freedom and values at home and abroad.  You are the true heroes!

This month’s Coffee with the Principal will be this Wednesday, November 15th, at 5:30. I will present an overview of the new state standardized assessment, MCAS 2.0.  Jenn Donais, our Math Coach will also be available to provide information on our new assessment program, Renaissance, which is replacing the MAP testing.

Tis the season for upcoming cold weather, holidays, and illnesses! A reminder to have your child dress in layers, as it is often hot in school, but chilly outside at recess.  Encourage hand washing to keep the germs away!  Our nurse, Mr. Curry Krieger sends this letter with another reminder about following safe health guidelines:

This year, there have been a significant number of students that have brought medications from home, either independently, or with instructions from parents.  Due to the natural curiosity of children, it is a great concern for the safety of the child and their friends.  In many instances, medications can look, and taste like candy, and the packaging they come in can look like a toy.

Due to the number of students that have entered the school with medication from home, I would like to take the opportunity to inform all of the parents about the medication policy.  I have attached a letter explaining the requirements for a student if they are to have medication while in school on my website page.

Please be advised.  Under NO circumstances is a child to bring medication in on their own!  Children are not to drop off medications to the school nurse.  PARENTS (or a responsible adult) must bring medications in and deliver them to the School Nurse.  Medications cannot be accepted by any staff other than the School Nurse.  This is necessary to ensure that the medications are processed into the school system properly.  If a child brings medications into the school on their own, the medication will be confiscated, and the parents will be notified.

Please do your part to ensure the safety of all the children at Silver Hill by not sending medications (even cough drops) in to school. Please feel free to call the Health Office if there are any questions that you or your family have.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Best Regards,

Brian Curry Krieger, RN
