The Week Ahead: December 4, 2017

December 4, 2017

Dear Silver Hill Families,

Tis the season to be Merry…and sometimes stressed! Between the holidays and the “Cold Moon” (largest full moon of the year!) there is a lot going on, as you can see by the “Planning Ahead” at the end of this message. Please take a few minutes to add these events to your home calendar and we’ll keep you updated through this e-mail or the web site for any new events added.

You should have received a notice from your child’s/children’s teacher/s about the upcoming evening conference times on December 13. We know this is not enough time to see everyone, but please be sure to respond to this notice with your preference for communicating with school regarding your child’s progress. YOU are so important in your child’s education!

This week and next Monday, teachers will be participating in the second Data Day to look at each student’s progress during the first trimester. There will be substitute teachers during this time. The schedule is as follows:

12/4 – Grade 5; 12/5 – Grade 4; 12/6 – Grade 1; 12/7 – Grade 3; 12/8 – Grade 2; 12/11 – Kindergarten.

Our Book Fair begins this week, running from December 6 – December 13. All proceeds will be used to build up our classroom libraries to provide our students with a wider range of reading at their independent level during their Reader’s Workshop time. Thank you in advance for supporting our programs. Books make the BEST presents!

Don’t forget Friday is our second “Can Do Day” for Emmaus House. This is one of their largest drives, and helps so many of our local community families during not just the holiday season but in the upcoming months. Every student (and adult!) who brings in 3 non-perishable food items gets to have a Crazy Hair Day…always a fun one!

The Haverhill School Committee is inviting anyone interested in being a participant in the Superintendent Search Focus Group to attend a focus group session. These are open to anyone and will be held: Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the Hunking School, 480 South Main Street and Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in City Hall, Room 301. Both of these sessions will begin at 7:00 pm. The opinions offered in the focus group discussions will assist us in the search process. Please be an active participant in choosing the next leader of our school district. Your input is important as we look toward the future of education for all students in Haverhill.

Have a great week and I hope the pre-holiday season is a calm one!

Margaret
