The Week Ahead: December 13, 2017

December 12, 2017

Dear Silver Hill Families,

It sure looks a lot more like winter! Please be sure your child/children are dressed for the weather.  Children need to get outside in the fresh air…and to use up some of their energy.  Unless the temperature is below 30 degrees we have outside recess. Silver Hill could be called Windy Hill, so there are days when the weather reads over 30, but the wind chill is much lower. We go with the wind chill! We follow the “Weather Watch for Children” recommended guidelines, attached. Whenever possible, I want all children to be able to enjoy snow recess time in a safe way. The rules are simple…

  • You must have on boots to go in the snow
  • You must have snow pants/snowsuit to play/roll/make snow angels/snow people/snow sculptures
  • There are NO snowballs!
  • It’s more fun if we’re dressed for it and stay warm!

If you would like assistance with winter clothing please let Sara know.  Whenever possible, we want all children to have snow fun!

A reminder that cell phones are not allowed to be used in school. If a student needs one for emergency reasons or for checking in at the end of the day, they must keep the cell phone in their backpacks during the day. If a child is found to have his/her cell phone out at any time during the school day, it will be taken away, and the parent/guardian will be called to come pick the phone up. Thank you for helping with appropriate cell phone use.

At our PTO meeting last evening, one of our parents shared a great resource for “Internet Safety Resources and Tips.” Especially during this holiday season when many families will be purchasing on line devices, this is such important information on how to use parental controls to keep our children safe from internet dangers.  Thank you Mike Murphy for this valuable information!

PTO is looking for a volunteer/volunteers to take over as events coordinator. Please let Kristina Morowski know if you would be able to help out. Thank you!

Report cards went home today and I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at conferences tomorrow night. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime with questions/concerns.

Please check below for more important events coming up, including a ROARS assembly and our last Can Do! Drive on Friday….It’s PJ Day for everyone who brings in three non-perishable items for Emmaus House!

Happy Hanukkah…Stay Warm,

Margaret
