Jaguar Journal 8-29-22

August 29, 2022

Hello Silver Hill Families,

Hope you are well as we wind down summer and prepare to get back to school tomorrow (grades 1-5). As you heard in a separate email, it is predicted to be quite hot on the first couple of days of school, so please be sure your child has a refillable water bottle with them so they may stay hydrated. We will do our best to keep everyone as cool and comfortable as possible.

Open House

Monday, August 29   5:00 – 6:30 pm

All grades K-5 are welcome. However, there will be a separate Open House for Kindergarten families as well on Friday, 9/2 from 9:30-10:30 am so they can meet their assigned teachers at that time.

Like last year, it will be held outdoors. Teachers will be set up by grade level to meet and welcome students to school. We will have tours available for families who wish to take a look around the building. Additionally, there will be a PTO table and a YMCA table to provide information for before and after school programs. And Kona Ice will be here as well!

Arrival

  • Students may be dropped off beginning at 8:45am. Unless they attend the YMCA program before school, students should NOT be dropped off before 8:45 am as there is no supervision at that time. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

  • 8:45 am – Students enter the building and proceed to their classrooms. Breakfast is available (free of charge) for all students

  • 9:00 am – Instruction begins

  • Students arriving after 9:00 am will be considered tardy and MUST be signed in at the office by a parent/caregiver.

Morning Drop Off

  • For safety reasons, we are asking parents to pull to the right side of the road once entering the parking lot. Cars will drive around to the back of the school and will be met with school staff to escort students into the building. Please be mindful of staff that are helping to direct traffic – their priority is student safety!

  • Reminder – ONLY buses pull through the bus loop – no exceptions. Please remember that buses have the right of way.

  • Drop off is a moving line, please no parking.

After School Car Pick Up

  • Pick up students and walkers get dismissed starting at 3:15 pm. Walkers are dismissed from the front of the school.  Kindergarten will be dismissed first and then all other grades. Please make sure to check in with one of the teachers that is supervising so they know when a student is picked up.

  • Our parking lot is a busy place and your child’s safety is our top priority. Please be patient and do not block the buses or other vehicles.

  • Follow the same procedures as the morning routine – pull to the right once you enter the parking lot. Drive around to the back of the school and staff will be available to support students getting to their cars.

  • Each student will be assigned a number that will be attached to their backpack – and the parent/guardian will get a matching number for the car. A staff member will call into the gym where students will be waiting to be picked up.

***We would like to know how your child is getting home/to aftercare each day so we can help with the process and keep everyone safe. Please fill out the following Google Form to help us with this process: How is My Child Getting Home?
