Jaguar Journal 11-14-22

Hello Silver Hill Families,Happy Sunday! I hope you all are having an excellent long weekend and are continuing to enjoy the warm weather.

Safety Drill: On Thursday we practiced an A.L.I.C.E. school safety and emergency preparedness drill involving staff from Central Office and first responders. The premise of the drill was an “unwanted intruder” who posed a threat to the safety of the school building. Our goal, which was accomplished, was the reinforcement of decision making to either evacuate or shelter-in-place according to A.L.I.C.E. protocols and procedures. We will conduct another drill again later in the school year. Please rest assured there is no information to suggest any of the schools or children are at greater risk. We are doing responsible planning to keep them safe.

All of the Silver Hill students and staff did a wonderful job following the directions and had a successful safety drill. We appreciate how everyone took the drill seriously and cooperated with one another!

Other Safety Reminders:

  • At Car Drop Off in the morning, please do not drive around the car in front of you! Children may be exiting the car on the passenger side, and could potentially be hit by a car driving around. We work to have the Car Drop Off go as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you for your care and cooperation.
  • When you enter the building, please do not let in anyone else who was not identified and buzzed in with you. We need to be aware of who is entering the building at all times. This happens frequently when children are tardy and dropped off between 9:00-9:30. Please help us stay safe and account for all who are in the Silver Hill School building.

Socktober: The student council is collecting new socks to be donated to homeless shelters – what a wonderful cause! Please see one of the flyers they created below. They will be collecting socks until Friday, November 18th.

School Site Council: Thank you to the parents who joined me at our first meeting of the year! We had a great discussion about Title I and the School Improvement Plan. We will continue to discuss the SIP throughout the year, and anyone is welcome to join; teachers will be joining us as well. The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 15th

From Nurse Kelli – Vision and hearing screenings will continue through the month of November. If your child wears glasses, please be sure they are wearing them to school to avoid unnecessary vision screening referrals, and so they are ready to learn! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Grade 5 Band Update: Tuesday, December 6th – Beginning Band Silver Hill/Consentino and Consentino Advanced Band students (as well as the Consentino Chorus and The Bucketheads) will present their first indoor concert since December 2019! The concert will take place in the Consentino cafeteria. The concert will begin at 6:30, and should be completed by 7:15.

Take care and be well.

Sincerely,

Donna Martin, Principal

Physical Education Reminders from Mr. Murphy

Sneakers Reminder

I am seeing more more students wearing Crocs and slides (flip-flops) in gym class . Students should be wearing sneakers on PE days and Crocs and slides are not sneakers and it is unsafe to be wearing them during PE. Also, any students that need sneakers can see me for sneakers whenever they feel comfortable to do so.

Jaguars on the Prowl – I am still looking for students to bring in some photos of them being active and healthy outside of school. This could include anything from sports, organized activities, dance, martial arts or just going for walk, bike ride, or hike with friends and family. I can also print photos if they are emailed to me.

Let’s all work together to be healthy and active outside of school! 🙂
