Thanks to Marlene Stasinos and members of the Bradford Grange, we now have four raised beds, so each grade 2 classroom will have their own garden. Lots of help went into this project based learning activity, with special thanks to Marlene, Nikki Mulloy, and Devan Ferreira for coordinating this project and helping with everything from building the beds to weeding! A big thank you also goes out to Neal, Ollie, Lucas, and Genevieve Ferreira and Brady Mulloy who have been digging, planting, and watering; Becca Marley for helping plant the seedlings with our grade 2 classes; Chris Stasinos from Chris’s farm stand for helping build the raised beds and along with Knapp’s Greenhouse donated the transplants; Kimball Farms for providing the compost; and especially Marlene and all the wonderful members of the Bradford Grange who chose Silver Hill to help educate the children on growing healthy food, helped build the beds, and provided manual labor and the soil and seedlings to bring our Plant unit to life!
Over the summer the vegetables were picked and donated to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry. Thank you to the Eldredge family for taking care of the vegetables all summer!
